Immediate vs Delayed Placement in Dental implants

Dental implants are popular as they are meant to replace missing teeth. By having one fixed, the patient can be rest assured that he or she will have new set of teeth that will make a person smile confidently and also chew and eat comfortably.

The decision to have dental implant is taken by the patient on the recommendation of the dentist. Then type of dental implant to be fixed has to be decided upon depending upon the individual health history of the patient. The dentist suggests whether the patient must go in for an immediate placement or a delayed placement.

Dental procedures have become highly specialized, and dentists are now able to provide the best treatment for replacing missing teeth. They are able to replace the teeth as quickly as possible, although the oral hygiene of the patient can at times delay the process of fixing. Globally, people can now have access to the best form of dental implant treatment at affordable costs.
Patients usually prefer dental replacements immediately and they would like to go around with a good set of teeth immediately. This may not be possible always, as medical and other dental treatment criteria have to be taken into consideration.

What is an immediate placement
In the case of an immediate placement, the dental implant is placed in a fresh socket where the tooth has been extracted. In some cases, the dental implant can also be in the placed socket of the extracted tooth
This sort of dental implant procedure may or may not require augmentative procedure.

Reasons for fixation of immediate placement
  • Position of the tooth
  • Line of the smile
  • Soft tissues biotypes
  • Bone quality and quantity
  • Expectation of the patient
  • Acute infection
What is a delayed placement tooth?
In the case of such procedure, dental implants can be fixed perhaps 2 months after the tooth has been extracted. In case immediate placement tooth is not possible then the dentist suggests delayed placement tooth.

Disadvantages of delayed placement tooth
  • Loss of bone volume
  • Bone quality must be good
The decision to go in for an immediate dental implant or delayed dental implant lies of course with the dentist, who keeps the patient’s welfare in mind. Delayed dental implant has to be undertaken in case the dentist is unable to have carry out immediate dental implant treatment.
